Dubai: UAE's Young Talents Cricket Academy will stage a tournament in England.
"This is the 10th tour of our academy to England and we have decided to stage a tournament involving teams from England, Scotland and India in Durham," remarked Shahzad Altaf, the chief coach of the academy to Gulf News.
The event is being supported by Durham County Cricket Club.
Fifteen teams will compete for the Syndicate International Cup in three age categories: Under-12, Under-16 and Under-18 from July 27 to August 2.
"This is the third tournament that we are staging in England. The first was the Standard Chartered Cup, second was the Dubai City of Gold Cup," added Altaf.
Young Talents Academy will be fielding four teams comprising the most promising youngsters from UAE
The Under-18 team is being led by Manish Dhakan, who was been very successful as a captain. Under his leadership, the team had won the Dubai City of Gold Cup and the Nissan Gulf Cup. His deputy is Nashwan Nasir.
Rameez Shahzad will join the team after representing UAE in the ACC trophy in Malaysia.
The Under-16 team is being led by Reuben Abraham with Aditya Mavuru as his deputy. This team has promising players like Chirag Suri and Karthik Venu Rajamony. Karthik had displayed splendid form during the last tournament in England.
The Under-12 team will be led by Trevos Jayasinghe while Steven Flynn is his deputy.
The capping ceremony of the team was held at Lord's Beach Hotel in Sharjah on Saturday. UAE cricket team coach Vasbert Drakes attended the function.
"Our team has trained hard under Andrew Shedlock, the head coach of the Shedders Cricket Academy in South Africa. We are sure to put up a good performance," said Altaf.
