Ajman: Ajman Police have arrested two African men for their alleged involvement in thefts and pickpocketing.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of Ajman Criminal and Investigation Department of Ajman Police, said police received complaints from several people about the gang's modus operandi.

In carrying out the crime, one of the suspects would spit on the victim, apologise and pretend to help the victim clean up. While the victim is distracted, the second suspect would pick their pocket.

“Spitting on people on the road and stealing their money is a new ploy being employed by thieves in Ajman. The whole operation takes only a few minutes as the victim would be busy cleaning himself,” Col. Al Matroushi said.

Police identified the suspects and their whereabouts and arrested them after they put up a violent resistance.

The suspects were arrested as they were about to dupe a new victim who entered a shop.

During interrogation, the suspects told police that they used this method as it was easy and they could took advantage of the negligence of people. They allegedly collected Dh56,000 from this method.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.

Col. Al Matroushi urged community members to inform the police of any suspicious activity while they are on the road or near banks or automated teller machines.
