Dubai: Sony is taking noise-cancelling technology to a new level with its new 1000X series headphones with improved ambient noise modes and new levels of sound adaptation techniques.

Taro Kimura, Sony’s managing director for Middle East and Africa, said that adaptive sound control is smart enough to automatically adjust to the surroundings and the personal and atmospheric pressure optimises and adjusts to individual listening style and altitude while flying in a high-altitude aircraft through the headphones Connect app.

“Noise-cancelling technology is improving year on year and Sony is the first to implement this technology in 1999,” he said.

The new launched models include the Sony WH-1000XM2 priced at Dh1,499, the neckband style Sony WI-1000X for Dh1,199, wireless Sony WF-1000X earbuds for Dh899 and one box MHC — V90DW sound box for Dh2,999.

Kimura said that Sony’s personal audio systems in the region have grown 26 per cent year on year in the first half while the home audio systems have grown 29 per cent year on year.

With the new headphones, he said that users can pause the music playback or listen to what other person is saying just by simply covering the earpiece with their hand.

Sony is expecting a tenfold year-on-year increase in revenues from the Middle East and Africa region this year compared to two per cent year-on-year growth last year.

TVs and cameras

Kimura said in March that Sony aims to attain 20 per cent growth but now he expects to attain more than 20 per cent growth, fuelled by enriched product line-up of TVs and cameras.

He said that Sony launched 20 TV models last year but this year it is 35 models, with a main focus on 4K televisions. Most of the camera and smartphone manufacturers are using our imaging solutions.

The company grew its TV business by 174 per cent and hit 16 per cent market share in 2016 in the 55-inch TV size category, experienced 112 per cent growth in the 65-inch and hit 18 per cent market share, while the 75-inch TV size segment achieved 252 per cent growth with a market share of 20 per cent.

Moreover, Kimura said that audio products will grow five-fold this year. The sound bar category grew by 126 per cent last year while the high power audio one box series achieved 55 per cent growth.
