Paris: Sir Bani Yas, a horse owned by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, won the Qatar Purebred Arabian Derby in Chantilly, France this week.
Ridden by big-race jockey Christophe Soumillon, Sir Bani Yas beat 14 rivals to win the 2000m contest which carried a purse of 150,000 euros.
Salim Al Ketbi, Managing Director at Al Asayl Racing and Breeding, a centre owned by owned by Shaikh Khalifa said the win was a great accomplishment for the young colt and demonstrated his outstanding skills.
John Francois Bernard, who trained the winner, congratulated Shaikh Khalifa on the win and commended the horse’s abilities.
“Sir Bani Yas is an excellent horse. I think that this horse will be even better next year,” he said.
