Dubai: A shepherd has been jailed for six months for beating up his co-worker and causing him a permanent injury after they had a heated argument in the farm where they worked.

The 22-year-old Pakistani shepherd was discussing a matter with his countryman co-worker before the heated argument developed into a fight and he attacked him in March 2015.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 22-year-old of beating his colleague and causing him a five per cent permanent disability.

The accused pleaded guilty.

Presiding judge Urfan Omar said the accused will be deported following the completion of his jail term.

The defendant admitted in court that he hit the victim but did not intend to cause him a disability.

The co-worker testified that he was discussing an issue pertaining to the farm where they both worked at Marmoum when the incident happened.

“We had a heated argument before the accused grabbed me by my shirt and pushed me … he threw me on the floor and left the room that we both shared. Half an hour later he returned to the room and hit me with an iron bar that he brought from outside. He hit me three times on my head and once on my right leg,” said the victim.

The suspect was cited as telling prosecutors that he beat the victim with an iron bar.

Tuesday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
