Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri decree for the reorganisation of the Sharjah Institute for Medical Research (SIMR), restructuring the board of trustees of the University of Sharjah (UoS) and endorsement of a convention on parental responsibility.

Decree No 42 of 2015 stipulates that an academy of scientific research and studies will be established and named the Sharjah Academy for Research. The decree states that the Academy will be an independent non-profit body, and will have financial and administrative independence. It will be owned by the Government of Sharjah, and other branches may be set up across the emirate.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also issued an Emiri decree on the endorsement of a convention on parental responsibility.

Emiri Decree No 41 of 2015 stipulates the implementation of the convention, which lists the responsibility of parents towards their children in the event of divorce or separation.

Sharjah’s Executive Council is permitted to amend the convention’s model based on the recommendations of executive bodies and the approval of the competent Sharia Court in the emirate.

Dr Shaikh Sultan, as Chairman of the board of trustees of UoS, also issued a resolution restructuring the board. The resolution stipulates that board members will have a renewable tenure of three years.
