Sharjah: Owners of vehicles and motorists who have accumulated speeding fines can now avail of a 50 per cent discount here if they decide to settle them before the end of December 2017.

All traffic points accumulated until October 18 will be covered by the discount offer.

The generous gesture was announced by Brigadier Saif Ziri Al Shamisi, Sharjah Police Commander-in-Chief on Wednesday.

The decision was made as part of Sharjah Police force’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The official said the decision comes within the framework of police initiatives aimed at delighting their clients and motorists.

The implementation of the discounts will begin on Thursday, October 19.

All traffic fines and black points accumulated until October 18 will be covered, Brig. Al Shamisi said.

The offer ends on December 31.

He added that the initiative will enhance the public's safety as motorists realise the value of not violating traffic rules.

Payments can be made through Ministry of Interior app. Those who had traffic black points, however, should approach the police department, the official said.

Dubai Police discount for traffic fines

In July, the Dubai Police announced that motorists who pay outstanding traffic fines incurred in 2016 or earlier can get a 50 per cent discount.

The order was issued by Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the occasion of the Year of Giving.

The 50 per cent reduction in fines does not cover violations committed in 2017.

The Dubai Police said that motorists can avail of the discount if they pay through any of the 295 official channels, including RTA kiosks and the Dubai Police website.
