Sharjah: Children play a crucial role in women’s rights in the Arab world, influential women in the UAE will highlight at a Sharjah conference on Wednesday.
A range of issues aimed at empowering girls and women in all walks of life will be at the centre of discussions at a session on the sidelines of the Investing in the Future conference (IIFMENA).
The session will be attended by 69 young members of the Sharjah Children Council, an elected body made up of schoolchildren aged from 10 to 14.
The council is organised by the Sharjah Children Centres, a subsidiary of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah.
Noora Al Kaabi, Minister of state for Federal National Council Affairs, and Khowla Abdul Rahman Al Mulla, the chair of the Sharjah Consultative Council, will speak at the session.
“No community can reach its full potential without empowering its women from an early age,” said Reem Bin Karam, director of Sharjah Children Centres.
Bin Karam noted that the UAE’s young population made listening to youngsters crucial.
“As they represent the real demographics of our society, we want to engage [Sharjah Children Council] members in discussions about what they think should be girls’ and women’s role in society,” she said.
