Sharjah: An annual charity initiative in Sharjah called ‘Joy of giving’ has received a Guinness World Records certificate for owning the largest wooden charity box in the world.

The collections box is 6.1 metres long, 2.6 metres wide, and 3.2 metres high and was on display at Al Noor mosque by Al Buhairah Corniche during Ramadan.

The charity initiative, organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Sharjah Charity International, and Chlorophyll Events, invites residents every Ramadan from across the country to enjoy a free iftar and make a donation to charity.

This year, residents placed their donations in the massive box at Al Noor mosque from July 18-31.

Last year, an estimated 2,500 people from different nationalities sat at the world’s longest iftar table at Al Buhairah Corniche walkway. That record involved 410 tables arranged end to end for a distance of 1.03 km.
