Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, inaugurated the new Ethiopian embassy building in Al Butain in Abu Dhabi.

Shaikh Abdullah and Dr Tedros Adhanom, Ethiopian Foreign Minister, who also attended the ceremony, unveiled a commemorative plaque.

Shaikh Abdullah expressed his delight and pride on behalf of the UAE Government in taking part in the opening of the new Ethiopian embassy in Abu Dhabi, which demonstrates the strength of bilateral relations.

He added that both countries have been associated since the start of their diplomatic and friendly relations based on joint interest in the stability and security of neighbouring countries.

He said that the volume of trade and investment and the number of air flights between the two countries is considered a good indicator of the development of relations. He also thanked Ethiopians residing in the UAE, who number more than 62,000, for their efforts and positive influence in the UAE.

Dr Adhanom thanked Shaikh Abdullah for attending the opening of the Ethiopian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, saying that his presence reflects the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The minister stressed that the opening of the embassy in Abu Dhabi comes after the opening of a consular office in Dubai in 2004, which will help to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The ceremony was also attended by Shaikh Faisal Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, chairman of Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries Julphar, and other senior officials.
