Abu Dhabi: Two policemen were honoured by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for saving a seven-year-old Saudi boy from drowning.

The two corporals from Al Rahba police station, Khalid Abdul Hamid Al Ali and Saif Omar Al Menhali, were on patrol duty when they noticed the child, Abdullah Salem Al Hammami, in the deep waters of Al Shalila beach. Abdullah’s father, who was on shore, was signalling for help and caught the attention of the policemen. Al Ali said that he swam out to save the child and performed the necessary first aid and medical procedures to keep the boy alive. His partner, Al Menhali, called for police and medical backup.

Shaikh Saif praised the courage of the two corporals and their dedication to serve others. Abdullah’s father expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Shaikh Saif, who called the father to inquire about the child’s health and recovery. He said that the phone call made them feel that they are home and among family. The police urged parents to keep an eye on their children and to provide them with the necessary care to avoid such incidents.
