Dubai: Community volunteers under the Dubai Rotary Zone Institute will celebrate the Rotary Foundation’s 100th founding anniversary in Dubai by holding training workshops to further improve their services to the public.

Rotary Foundation is the charity arm of Rotary International, the world’s largest network of community volunteers, having its presence in over 200 countries and in six continents.

Rotary members through the foundation have supported projects to provide potable water, fight disease, provide basic education and promote peace in many countries. It has also been at the forefront in the fight against polio worldwide since 1979.

As part of the celebrations, Dubai Rotary Zone Institute will hold a series of conferences from December 16 to 18 to be attended by global leaders and delegates, including 1,000 officers and members from South Asian countries.

Rotary International President John Germ, who hails from the USA, and World Chairman of the Rotary Foundation, Past Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee will lead the centennial celebration in Dubai.

“This three-day conference is important for the rotary officers to upgrade their knowledge,” Rajendran Ramasamy, Adviser, Dubai Rotary Zone Institute, told Gulf News. “We are also planning to conduct a world convention for the Rotary in 2021 here in Dubai to be attended by 60,000 members from around the world.”

Conference speakers include Mike McQueen, renowned international speaker from Australia; Anshu Gupta Magasese, award winner and founder of Goonj; tennis celebrity Leander Paes; and Past Rotary International President K.R. Ravindran from Sri Lanka.

Rotary International director and convener of the Institute Dr Manoj Desai from India and Rotary International directors Mikael Ahlberg from Sweden and Frederick Lin from Taiwan will be representing the Rotary International Board of Directors.
