Dubai: Road deaths and injuries in Dubai fell by 13.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2016 compared to the same period last year, Dubai Police said on Thursday.
Dubai Traffic Police released statistics of the three months between June and September this year and the same period last year during an evaluation meeting headed by Lt-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief.
Colonel Jamal Al Bannai, Deputy Director of Dubai Traffic Police, gave a presentation on the results.
He said the third quarter of 2016 saw 39 traffic fatalities compared to 45 deaths in the same period last year.
In 2016, third quarter statistics showed 167 minor injuries in traffic accidents, 180 moderate and 39 severe, also an improvement from the 294 minor injuries in the same period last year, 180 moderate injuries and 36 severe.
The top five most dangerous roads in Dubai, according to the statistics, where most fatalities took place, are Mohammad Bin Zayed Road with two fatalities — same as last year — Emirates Road with 10 fatalities this year and 11 last year, Shaikh Zayed Road with five this year and four last year, Dubai-Al Ain Road with two fatalities this year and one last year and finally Al Khail Road with five fatalities this year, a jump from one in the same period last year.
The Aggressive Driving campaign resulted in fining 34,756 motorists in the third quarter of this year, compared to 31,904 in the same period last year.
The jaywalking campaign resulted in 15,818 fines for violators as opposed to 15,105 last year.
