Cross-dressing in movies has prevailed since the era of silent films.

How can we forget Robin Williams in drag in Mrs. Doubtfire or Kamal Haasan in a madisaaru (nine-yard sari) in the Tamil film Avvai Shanmugi?

Cross-dressing promises comedy and ever since the motion poster of new Tamil film Remo went online, Sivakarthikeyan’s fans have been excited.

Sivakarthikeyan sports two looks: one as the hero Siva, an aspiring actor, and the other as young nurse Remo, whose beautiful looks could give many stars a complex.

Remo is directed by first-timer Bakkiyaraj Kannan, a former assistant of Tamil directors Sundar C and Atlee. Kannan calls Remo a romantic comedy.

“Siva is the boy next door and he dreams of making it big in cinema,” says Kannan.

Sivakarthikeyan is paired opposite Keerthy Suresh. It’s their second film together after Rajini Murugan. Suresh plays Kavya, a doctor.

Siva for some reason disguises himself as a nurse.

This image makeover for Sivakarthikeyan was done by Hollywood’s Sean Foot. For Remo’s look, Sivakarthikeyan lost around 10kg first, then he had to regain weight to play the hero’s character.

Sivakarthikeyan began his career on television as a stand- up comedian and host with a talent for mimicry.

The supporting cast includes Saranya Ponvannan, Aadukalam Naren, Satish, Yogi Babu and Mottai Rajendran. P. C. Sreeram is the cinematographer. Anirudh Ravichander has composed music.

“The story revolves around Remo and is a good family entertainer,” promises Kannan.

Remo is produced by R.D. Raja and is out now in the UAE.
