Ismailia: Egypt hosted fresh negotiations with Hamas and Islamic Jihad on Thursday to continue efforts to strike a truce between the Palestinian militant groups and Israel, Egyptian sources close to the talks said.

With US support, Egypt had been holding talks to bring an end to hostilities between Israel and the militants from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

The talks took place near the Rafah border crossing and were attended by a senior Egyptian aide as well as top Hamas and Islamic Jihad representatives.

Hamas has laid out conditions for a ceasefire with Israel which include an end to Israeli offensive as well as an open Gaza border.
