Tripoli: The army on Sunday deployed in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli where clashes erupted overnight between pro-government gunmen and fighters loyal to Hezbollah.
At least one person was killed and five others wounded in the clashes that eased by mid-morning on Sunday as the army entered the affected areas.
The Arab League was set to hold emergency talks in Egypt on the crisis.
Many homes and businesses were torched in districts where the battles raged. Shops and cars were also vandalized, witnesses said.
Foreigners continued to leave Lebanon by road to Syria on Sunday, although the eastern border crossing of Masnaa was still blocked by pro-government supporters.
An official at Beirut's Rafiq Hariri International Airport, which has been virtually shut down by the unrest, said no incoming or outgoing flights were scheduled for Sunday.
In Beirut, Lebanese troops backed by armoured vehicles set up roadblocks and took up positions on streets after ezbollah fighters pulled back from areas they had seized.
At least 38 people have been killed in four days of fighting that erupted after the government said it was taking action against Hezbollah's military communications network.
