Sharjah: I am a resident of Sharjah, but I work in Jebel Ali, Dubai. I used to take the Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road for my trips to and from work.

Usually the traffic congestion during the evening starts from the Mirdif City Center area and almost all those who use the same route on a daily basis are used to that.

But, the really irritating thing is that some of the motorists use this waiting time to browse the internet or send messages using their smartphone. In the mean time, the vehicle ahead of them moves, but they won’t move since their eyes are locked to their phone’s screen.

The motorist behind has to sound the horn of his or her car to get their attention and in this time several vehicles from the other lanes would have filled the gap between the car and the vehicle that had moved ahead. This makes the vehicles behind this motorist wait some more.

Avoid using smartphone while driving

It is not a good practice to use the smartphone while driving and the authorities have implemented several fines to stop this habit. Regardless of that, I am sure many people would have faced this situation.

Apart from the authorities, it is each and every road user’s responsibility to maintain a good driving practice. The authorities are doing their level best to serve us better, but it isn’t possible for them to monitor each and every vehicle.

I request motorists to please take the initiative from their side to stop such bad habits.
