Mark Kirkland has dedicated more than a decade of his life to a single concept: The sandwich in a can. Or, actually, make that a few concepts: Sandwiches in a can. Pizza in a can. French toast in a can. Cinnamon rolls in a can.
Why a can? Because, when combined with techniques similar to those used to preserve Meals Ready-to-Eat for soldiers, an aluminum can keeps food fresh for a full year or even longer. Yes, that’s right: A fresh, year-old sandwich. And cans have an added benefit, Kirkland noted: They fit perfectly inside all the soda vending machines that exist, well, everywhere. That means his “Candwich” products could be sold in both stores and vending machines.
“So think about it,” Kirkland explained. “You’re a mom running your kids between school, piano lessons, soccer. Stopping at a fast-food restaurant takes time. This is something that literally could roll around the car for a few months. ... “

Good Week
For Dubai – the filming of Mission Impossible 4 at the Burj Khalifa and DIFC has been one of the high spots of the week. Loving the pictures of Tom hanging out of the Burj Khalifa – and what’s most shocking is that he’s actually the guy doing it… I’ve seen the pics. He is literally hanging off the building!! I love it when celebs come to town… we just need George back here again!
Bad Week
Lily Allen lost her baby at 6 months – she pulled out of a charity gig on Saturday and then it was announced that she had lost her baby after suffering from a virus. This is the second time she has lost a baby having tragically miscarried in 2009 at three months. Demi Lovato – the teen singing sensation has checked herself into rehab and is missing the last dates of her tour with the Jonas Brothers – rumour has it she spiraled out of control over her ex Joe Jonas and his relationship with Twilight star Ashley Greene. Justin Long – Drew Barrymore’s on/off boyfriend – he was in a car crash last night and suffered mild concussion after a car crashed into him
Hollywood’s Secret Torture
Portia Di Rossi admitted this week that she suffered from eating disorders for years while she was starring in Ally McBeal – dropping to a staggering 82 pounds at one point. Now happily married to Ellen Degeneres the Aussie star is now sharing her journey in a new autobiography which reveals that she was close to death living on 150 calories a day, 20 laxatives and working out for hours at an end. She hopes that by talking about her debilitating disease others will have the strength to help themselves out of the debilitating disease. Other celebs who have also suffered from anorexia are Karen Carpenter, Victoria Beckham who had eating issues when she first started with the Spice Girls, Kate Beckinsale, Mary-Kate Olsen – who underwent treatment for her anorexia.

Good Week/Bad Week
Bad Week for Rumer Willis her and her boyfriend Micah Alberti have split as have Dancing with Stars Stars Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna – the couple met when they were paired together for the hit show but it seems their romance didn’t last past the Tango.
Great week though for Alana de la Garza – the star of Law and Order – who gave birth to a baby boy yesterday. Also congrats to Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen the couple have finally confirmed their relationship after being spotted holding hands on romantic dates in Toronto where the pair are promoting their upcoming movie. And a great week for Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy who are currently on holiday in Dubai putting their relationship back on track.
Relationship on the Rocks
Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, the notoriously happy couple (we all remember the backlash Gisele got when she kept talking about breastfeeding and working mums) are suffering under the spotlight following the release of pictures of the Brazilian model in a very compromising position with Helly Nahmad while in Paris (hubby Tom was busy in America preparing for a football match). Spokespeople for the model say that they are just old friends however the pictures are quite heated with her in a very intimate clinch with Helly
And that’s not the only one.
The Beckhams, following revelations that David had allegedly had a series of meetings with “ladies you pay”. The couple are currently suing In Touch Magazine that revealed the story for $15million dollars – and now today it’s been revealed the David is in the centre of a divorce storm with a couple at the Beckham’s boy’s school. Shery Shanbani’s soon-to-be ex husband claims her and David were having an affair and he has the emails to prove it.
Mel and Oksana: The Update
Oksana has spoken for the first time since their huge split claiming she thought the actor was going to kill her and their daughter, branding him a bully and accusing him of punching her in the face. She told People magazine that she didn’t leak the tapes in which Gibson rants and raves at her but she knows that Mel is so remorseful over what has happened that he’s “depressed and suicidal” and would have killed himself many times if he wasn’t Catholic. She also denies accepting money or trying to extort money but does say that the star offered to pay her $15million to walk away from the custody battle and agree on joint custody over baby Lucia but she refused saying she was too terrified to leave her with her father. People editor JD Heyman who did the interview also revealed the Oksana wanted to move on with her life saying that “she’s not angry with him. She just wants him to “be a man and get help”.

Good Week
For Penelope Cruz and Javier Barden – the couple have finally admitted that they’re having a baby and Penelope is 4 and a half months pregnant.
Chef Jamie Oliver and wife Jools gave birth to a baby boy Buddy – he’s the first boy in the oliver househould and has three older sisters.
Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle has got engaged to her American football star boyfriend Jason Bell.
Jennifer Lopez also had a great week signing a deal for nearly Dhs45million to be a judge on the 10th season of American Idol which will have a whole new line up as Kara DioGuardi, Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres are all leaving. Aaand Lady Gaga won 8 awards at the VMAs.
Bad week
For George Michael who’s been sentenced to two months in prison for his DUI when he crashed into a snappy snaps store in North London – the star was in tears as he was lead away from the court and will be serving time in Pentonville Prison which is where Pete Doherty and Boy George also spent their sentences.
Spice Girl Mel B is being sued for $500,000 for breach of contract with – she’s accused of taking the money to invest in upcoming “Mel B” projects that never happened.
Hot new relationships
Kelly Osbourne is dating Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford. Liam Neeson is also dating again 18 months after the death of his wife Natasha Richardson – the 56-year-old is seeing Freya St John a British PR who’s also the mother of two.
Sean Penn and Charlize Theron…!!?? Can you believe it? The pair have been spotted having intimate dinners in Santa Monica.
August 19th
Good Week
For actress Hilary Duff the 5ft tall actress married her 7ft tall hockey playing husband Mike Comrie in a secret ceremony – but only after they signed a prenup protecting Mike’s $500million fortune from his family’s home appliance and furniture company – no wonder her ring cost $1million . Good week for Britney Spears who made a successful return to the small screen with her appearance on the hit show Glee. Jesse James has had a good week after it was revealed he’s in a new relationship with fellow tattoo artist Kat Von D – the couple were spotted in Las Vegas holding hands and cuddling – thus come just months after his divorce from Sandra Bullock was finalized. Is there good news on the horizon for Katie Price – the D-rate celebrity is sporting what looks like a baby bump.
Bad Week
For Michael Douglas, the Oscar winning star has been diagnosed with throat cancer and is now undergoing 6 weeks of chemotherapy. Doctors are hopefully that will be enough to zap the disease. Mel Gibson’s week just keep getting worse after he crashed his Maserati this week – police were at the scene but ruled that it was an accident and the car was towed away while Mel got a lift home with a friend – also it’s been claimed that Mels’ ex wife Robyn has been supboened to testify for Oksana in their custody trial. Bad week for Leonardo Di Caprio – he’s convinced he’s the one to blame for his best friend Kate Winslet’s marriage breakdown after the two starred in Revolutionary Road directed by her husband Sam Mendes.
Hollywood’s Fraud Scandal
Stars like Jennifer Aniston, Liv Tyler have been unknowing victims of credit card fraud after beautician to the stars Maria Gabriella Perez – owner of Chez Gabriela Studio was charged with two counts of fraud and faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years after she’s accused of taking credit card information from clients and ringing up hundreds of thousands of dollars in bogus charges. Other clients include Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz while Anne Hathaway and Cher have also noticed bizarre charges on the bill that ultimately accounted for $280,000 dollars worth of cash in one year!
Cheryl Cole’s Cover Up
After recovering from her split from Ashley Cole – allegedly in the arms of US Dancing with the Stars champ Derek Hough – it seems their relationship is a complete fake with their friend boxer Amir Khan revealing that the two aren’t together and that they’re playing up the relationship for the cameras… And what about the other stars that arrange a cover up for the cameras. Sources claim that Blake Lively and Penn Badgely from Gossip Girl were ordered into a fake relationship in order to get the buzz going on the hit show and encourage.
Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler – those two were allegedly in a relationship at exactly the same time with flop movie Bounty Hunter was released. And there’s always the ongoing debate about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes…
Good Week/Bad Week
Is it a good week for Lily Allen who’s announced she’s pregnant with her first baby. And also for Mel B – rumour has it the ex-Spice Girl is pregnant. Daniel Radcliffe – aka Harry Potter - has been spotted with his new girlfriend Olivia Uniacke. Good week for Britney Spears who has finally headed back to the recording studio to start work on her new album that insider’s are saying may feature Robbie Williams on one of the tracks. Great week for Lady Gaga who’s been nominated for a record 13 MTV Video Music Awards – the highest ever for any artist in a single year. Eminem is up for 8 nominations including Video of the Year for Not Afraid. Keisha’s up for 4 and Florence and the Machine are up for five awards. And finally a great week for Wyclef Jean – the hip hop artist announced that he’s going to be following in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan and swopping showbiz for politics and running for President of Haiti. Following on from the country’s devastating earthquake the star wants to help his country fight corruption and get it back on track.
Bad week
It started off as a good week for Lindsay as she was released early from jail after only 13 days behind bars but now the star is having a nightmare in rehab where she’ll stay for 90 days where she’ll undergo physcological and addiction treatments. Bad Week for George Clooney’s girlfriend Elisabetta – the Italian model has been accused of being involved in a prostitution and drug ring many years ago. The stunning brunette has completely denied all charges. Bad week for Gisele Bunchen who has been suffering a backlash following on from her comments about how there should be a law on breastfeeding for the first 6 months. The comments that were made in an recent interview have seen people hitting back at the supermodel. Bad week for Amy Winehouse who having cleaned up her act in rehab was spotted at 9.30 in the morning after an all-night bender – is she back to her old tricks already?
Bristol and Levi: Over Again!
After the shocking news that Bristol and Levi had got engaged after their scandalous split after their baby Tripp was born, Sarah Palin’s oldest daughter has called off the engagement again with Sarah commenting that she hopes her daughter will “move forward in life with her same forgiving, gracious, optimistic spirit but from henceforth she’ll know to trust but verify”. The 19 year old is said to have dumped Johnston over claims he’ may have fathered another baby with an ex-girlfriend and that he lied to her about a recent trip to LA saying he was going to a hunting show but instead was going to star in a music video mocking her family – he was going to play a guy who’s romance was doomed due to his girlfriend’s disapproving mother.
Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves
A study announced this week that having a sister means you grow up feeling less lonely, guilty and afraid – it makes us generally nice people as we’re more generous and less at risk of depression. Having girls in the family means you’re more willing to talk and share and more likely to be caring and healing… and it’s no different in Hollywood. Dani and Kylie Minogue are each other’s best friends. Jessica and Ashlee Simpson have always been supportive of each other’s careers and Venus and Serena Williams even play doubles together on the tennis circuit and are often playing each other in the grand slam finals. Good week for Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom – it seems the newlyweds might be pregnant! After only being engaged a month the couple got married in Caribbean in a secret ceremony but did they rush their nuptials as they’re expecting? Is Ryan Seacrest about to become a father as well after his girlfriend Julianne Hough spilled on radio that they were expecting. No confirmation yet though. For Cheryl Cole who was spotted for the first time yesterday following her Malaria scare. The star was pictured outside her home in Surrey in the UK heading to Starbucks for a coffee – rumour has it her boyfriend Derek Hough has moved into her home to be near her while she recuperates. The dancer is planning a move to the UK and is staying with Cheryl while he looks for a more permanent home in the UK.
Bad Week
For the Duchess of York – the scandal ridden ex-royal owes her personal fitness instructor Dhs375,000, Dhs280,000 to Selfridges for luxury gifts, over Dhs1million to her lawyers. Even her newsagent is refusing to deliver her papers as she owes him Dhs2,500 in old bills. Bad week for Carla Bruni-Sarkozy – the French President’s wife is starring in a cameo in Woody Allen’s new movie shooting in Paris but the singer took 35 takes to do a shot of her walking into a bakery. Bad week for the Palins – after we revealed that Sarah’s daughter Bristol is back with Levi, it seems Levi has an ex-girlfriend who is about to give birth to a baby that she believes might be Levi’s!

Is America’s most glamorous (and expensive) wedding – Chelsea Clinton is marrying Marc Mezvinsky in a Dhs11million ceremony. Wall Street banker Marc is marrying the ex first daughter in front of 500 guests in Rhinebeck New York with each guest costing the ex first family Dhs35,200 per head. They’ve spent over Dhs2.2million on marquees alone, Dhs1.75million on flowers, Dhs385million on the knives and forks and plates – the cake along is Dhs38,500. Plastic Surgery Nightmare
Sharon Stone was on TV last night to promote her new show The Talk (basically think The View with Sharon on the panel) – but rather than talking about the new show everyone was talking about how Sharon may have taken her surgery addiction a little too far after she appear lopsided!? She’s already admitted to spending over Dhs650,000 on surgery including stomach stapling, face lift, brow lift and a breat enhancement and liposuction but it seems she may have just gone a little too far this time and joins Kenny Rogers, Cher, Dolly Parton, Donatella Versace. Ladies – please just grow old gracefully! And that’s a warning to you Madonna.
