Abu Dhabi: Police have seized 18.5kg of hashish from a Gulf resident.

Police officials said the suspect was planning to share it with friends during a holiday visit to the UAE.

The suspect was nabbed as part of what police called the El Eid Operation.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Bu Rasheed, the Abu Dhabi Police Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, said that members of the Anti Narcotics Department (AND) of Abu Dhabi Police on Sunday, were able to capture the hashish shipment through an operation which narrowed all options against the drug promoter leading to his arrest.

He said that despite the difficulty of the operation and the extreme caution that characterised the promoter’s actions, the team members were able through their long experience in this area to arrest the suspect in possession of drugs on his way to push the drugs.

Classified information was received by the department about a suspect carrying a huge amount of hashish with the intention of traffickingthe drugs during the Eid holiday.

A team led by Colonel Sultan Suwayih Al Darmaki, head of the Anti-Narcotics Department, was forged to investigate the situation immediately.

The team identified the suspect as (A.S) 38, after police raided his residence in Abu Dhabi and located the drugs at the residence.

Police said that the suspect had hidden his stash of hashish in his vehicle expertly inside the car tires.

A sum of Dh100,000 was also found in his procession and other prohibited items.

Col Dr Bu Rasheed affirmed that the department makes great efforts to fight narcotics and drugs according to a comprehensive strategy prepared for this hefty task.
