Sharjah: The Pink Caravan UAE breast cancer awareness initiative has announced that the fifth annual Pink Caravan Ride will take place from March 16-25.

The initiative aims to spread awareness about the significance of early detection and self-examination, and to help dispel myths surrounding the disease.

The 10-day ride, which is organised by the Friends of Cancer Patients charity (FoCP), will kick off at 12.45pm on March 16 from the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club. Mobile clinics will work throughout the 10-day ride, from 7am-9pm, in selective locations in each emirate. The ride will make multiple stops in each emirate, including City Centre Fujairah, Oceanic Khor Fakkan Resort, Umm Al Quwain Hospital, Meydan Hotel in Dubai, and many more.

According to breast cancer data, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer affecting women worldwide, accounting for 16 per cent of all cancers that affect women. About 1.1 million women across the world are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, 410,000 of whom die of cancer. “If found in the early stages, 98 per cent of women can be completely cured,” said Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, Secretary-General of FoCP and Head of the Pink Caravan’s Medical Committee.
