Shooting for maximum impact
Taking a photograph has never been easier. Be it a mobile camera, a point-and-shoot or a DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera, Gulf News readers are all set to capture a moment for eternity. For the month of April, Gulf News gave its Facebook followers the challenge to capture images that represented four themes: food, adventure sports in the UAE, reflections and geometric shapes. Keeping these in mind, our readers posted over 100 pictures on the Gulf News Facebook page, out of which seven were selected by Picture Editor K. P. Devadasan as the best images of the month. Here are the winners.

Photo essay: A look at an ancient craft
Gulf News reader Faisal Magray took these photographs in Jammu and Kashmir in India. He said: “Having served Kashmiri homes for centuries, traditional earthen pottery might soon become a thing of the past. Pottery took the shape of indigenous Kashmiri art and some people adopted it as a profession. In Nishat, Srinagar, the locality of Kral Sangri was known for pottery making. Young and old in each family would make earthen pots. However, now only a few families make these earthen utensils in the entire locality. Pottery, once the main source of income for many, is now a closed chapter the inhabitants do not want to return to. During the past few decades these earthen pots have been replaced with aluminium, plastic and steel products, affecting the livelihood of a large number of artisans engaged in the trade.”

Facebook Photography Competition winners
In March, Gulf News readers had a wide range of options to showcase their talents, using a camera, in our monthly Facebook Photography Competition. The four themes for March included: Night, Music, People Working Outside and Sand. With more than 400 photographs submitted throughout the month, it was not an easy task for our Photo Editor, Devadasan K.P., to judge and select seven winning images.
