In pictures: Lord’s and masters of the game

The much-awaited clash between India and England got off under gloomy skies at Lord’s on Thursday. The players spent had extra practice session until play began in the 2,000th Test and the 100th contest between these two teams. Though much has centred around the landmark 100 centuries of Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, the hosts came under immense pressure in the opening session losing the in-form Alastair Cook and skipper Andrew Strauss soon after the lunch break, both off Zaheer Khan, to enliven the contest. India are currently No 1 in the ICC’s Test Championship table and England third. But England will leapfrog the Indians at the top of the rankings if they win the four-match series by two clear Tests.
