In pictures: The heritage haven of Dubai's Al Bastakiya
The old district of Al Bastakiya offers a glimpse of how Dubai once looked with its narrow lanes, sublime architecture and classic wind towers. The old buildings have been converted into cafes, art galleries and quirky little shops, making Al Bastakiya perfect for a journey of cultural discovery. Another attraction is the official residence of Shaikh Saeed Al Maktoum, who ruled Dubai from 1912-1958. Visitors can also see the Heritage Village near Dubai Creek. The area has been included on a tentative Unesco World Heritage list.
