In pictures: Second longest lunar eclipse of the century
Thousands of people in the UAE and across the world watched an unusually long total lunar eclipse last night. They watched in fascination and disbelief as the Moon slowly disappeared in a vibrant colours. The second longest Lunar eclipse of this century began at 10.30pm and ended at around 1 am, the total phase of the eclipse lasted around 100 minutes. The event was awe inspiring and people watched it with mixed emotions. A similar lunar eclipse is expected only in 2141, say astronomers. This year, the next total lunar eclipse will be on December 10, but won’t last as long. The lunar eclipse was visible from across the globe, except the US and Canada, according to astronomers. The oldest record of a lunar eclipse was made more than 4,000 years ago.
