In pictures: Aleppo’s ancient souq burns

Hundreds of shops were burned when Aleppo’s historic Souq Al Madina was reportedly shelled during fighting between the Syrian army and rebel forces. The Old City of Aleppo where the souk is located is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here are images of the souq as well as photos of the fire.
