Ramadan snapshots: United in prayers
Millions of worshippers attended the first Friday prayers of Ramadan across the Muslim world amid turmoil in some parts of the region. Nearly 100,000 worshippers attended prayers at the Al Aqsa mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem’s Old City, where Israeli army and police were deployed in force. Prayers were held in Egypt for Syrians who are continuing to protest against the regime which on Thursday killed at least 10 people. Libyans came out in force in Benghazi to pray for those fighting the dictatorial regime. In Yemen, government forces clashed with supporters of the Hashed tribe that is demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh to leave office.
