In pictures: “Zibelemaerit” in Bern
The ‘Zibelemaerit’ (onion market) is a traditional one-day festival which is held on the fourth Monday in November in Bern. Since the early 15th century farmers from the surrounding area, especially from the lake region of the canton of Fribourg, bring some 40 - 50 tonnes of onions - in artistically woven plaits - and garlic to the federal capital to sell.
