Pyrotechnics extravaganza
Thousands of residents gathered in different locations around the country to usher in 2012. At the stroke of midnight on December 31, some 600,000 people had gathered around the Burj Khalifa to herald in the New Year. Fireworks illuminated the Dubai skyline from Burj Al Arab, Atlantis Hotel, Dubai Festival City and the Creek. In Sharjah, Qanat Al Qasba witnessed a spectacular pageantry of fireworks. In Abu Dhabi, residents swayed at Coldplay’s open-air concert and enjoyed the fireworks display at the Corniche.
