Long and short Bollywood movies

There was a time when watching Bollywood films meant you had to keep aside a substantial slice of your life - at least three hours in many cases - to accommodate all the drama and dancing. But times, it seems, may be changing. This week's big Bollywood release, We Are Family, clocks in at a neat one hour 55 minutes. Karan Johar is the producer behind that film and other recent "shorter" films - many at just over two hours - that have become hits, such as Wake Up Sid and I Hate Luv Storys, and he says that the running length and a film's success may be related. "A film is good only if it's able to hold an audience's attention. This length worked for us ... If a movie, no matter what its genre, is well-told, there is [a] greater chance of viewers liking it," says Johar. tabloid! takes a look at some Bollywood films to find out if their running time contributed to their success or failure.
