Manama: A tribal truce has ended a bitter stand-off between a newly married Egyptian expatriate and two members of a tribe whom he caught peeping at him and his bride in their bedroom.

The man, who has reportedly lived for years in a village in the region of Al Bahah, in the southwest of Saudi Arabia, noticed a young man peeping into the bedroom and making strange noises from the top of a hill overlooking the house.

Shocked by the discovery, he went up to the man and had a fight with him.

Another young man claim that the ‘peeping Tom’ had learning difficulties and that the Egyptian expatriate should let him go home, local news site Al Sada reported on Wednesday.

However, the angry husband refused to believe the story and insisted on taking the young men to the police.

A neighbour who became aware of the issue went up to the husband and convinced him to forgive the two young men, reminding him of the “numerous good years he had spent among the village residents” and of the “special respect he enjoyed from all the people.”

‘Shameless’

The husband eventually forgave the duo and decided against taking the matter to the security authorities.

A small party was held by grateful dignitaries who hosted a lunch banquet and offered the Egyptian expatriate gifts for pardoning the two young men.

However, several social network users said they were not pleased with the development and insisted the two culprits should have been referred to the security officers to be punished for their unethical behaviour.

“These two are totally shameless and they cannot be trusted the slightest bit,” Abu Salah, a blogger, said.

“They did not show any respect for their neighbour and they dared to peep into a private home. I salute the man who caught them and I wish they had been severely punished,” he posted.
