Istanbul: The UAE stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the parliaments of Islamic countries in order to explore methods for disseminating education and true Islamic values and protect the true image of the religion by addressing smear campaigns against Islam.

Mohammad Ahmad Al Murr, Speaker of the Federal National Council, made the statement as he led the UAE parliamentary delegation participating in the 10th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUOICM).

Al Murr added the UAE occupies a leading global position in official UN development aid due to the humanitarian nature of its aid provided to millions of Muslims who are victims of conflicts.

“This session is being held during a critical and historic political phase that threatens the security and stability of our Islamic population, in addition to the increasing gap in mutual understanding with other civilisations due to the spread of dark, terrorist and extremist forces that cannot in any way claim they are a part of Islam’s values of tolerance,” said Al Murr.

He pointed out the Islamic nation, comprising more than 1.5 billion Muslims, is still continuing its civilizational and historic role in various continents around the world, challenging these extremist minorities who oppose humanitarian and Islamic values.
