Sharjah: Free parking lots at Central Market in Al Majaz will be converted into paid parking zones as of today (Wednesday), according to Sharjah Municipality.

Atif Al Zarouni, Director of the Public Parking Department at Sharjah Municipality, said parking meters have already been installed in this area. The move is in line with the municipality’s keenness to ensure the availability of parking spaces for the public.

He also said that the municipality seeks to provide parking for residents and visitors in this busy area via pre-paid parking to prevent the misuse of the space, as it has been noticed that some motorists park vehicles for long periods.

Al Zarouni added that converting these areas into paid parking zones would help organise random parking of vehicles and as well provide new parking lots. He explained that the pre-paid parking system has positively reflected on organising parking slots for people and contributed to easing the problem of tight parking lots. It also helped improve the general image of the city.

Al Zarouni underlined that the municipality seeks to provide the necessary facilities to the public, where the paid parking service had been launched via SMS in all areas to make it easier for the public to pay parking fees, In addition to the payment via the ticket machine, the vehicles owners can also use the annual subscription cards, half-annual subscription cards and quarterly-annual subscription cards available at the municipality.
