Parking free in Dubai on holidays

The Roads and Transport Authority will exempt members of the public from paying parking fees across Dubai until December 4

Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will exempt members of the public from paying parking fees across Dubai until December 4 — a move in line with the Eid and National Day holidays.

However, this does not include the free use of the car park at the Deira Fish Market, according to an RTA announcement.

A senior RTA executive called on motorists to comply with the instructions and guidelines set for the use of public parking and urged people not to park their vehicles on pavements or double park in front of parked vehicles.

He warned that legal action would be taken against those found breaking the law.

mParking service  successful

Meanwhile, the RTA has revealed that its mParking service (the new service used to pay for public parking using mobile phones) which it launched last May has been very successful.

The RTA said the number of e-tickets issued since the introduction of the system topped more than a quarter of a million, with a daily average of 4,200 e-tickets. The official added that the number of registered users in the system through the website (www.mpark.rta.ae) was in excess of 10,000.

"This illustrates the soaring demand for the service which is currently available at some areas of Bur Dubai and Deira," the official said, before adding that the service would soon cover all public parking zones in Dubai by year-end.
