Abu Dhabi, Dubai: Pakistanis in the UAE expressed hope on the 71th Pakistan Independence Day on Monday that their country will become an economic powerhouse in the international arena while crushing terrorism at home.

Hundreds of Pakistanis from all walks of life gathered at the Pakistan embassy in Abu Dhabi and Pakistan consulate in Dubai to celebrate the occasion.

Many of them pointed to Cpec (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor), a series of infrastructure, energy and trade projects, as the harbinger of a new era of investment in Pakistan.

A large number of people from the community thronged to Pakistan's embassy in Abu Dhabi early morning along with their families and children to mark the day with enthusiasm and gaiety.

Children were clad in their national dresses and waving their flags, chanting "Pakistan Zindaba" (Long live Pakistan).

Pakistan ambassador to the UAE, Moazzam Ahmad Khan along with the community people hoisted the national flag at the premises of the embassy followed by national anthem and patriotic songs by pupils of Sheikh Khalifa Pakistan School in Abu Dhabi.

The ambassador wished the community on the occasion and appreciated their continued contributions for the growth of their country.

He also lauded the leadership of the UAE for the great friendly relations with Pakistan and rendering a peaceful stay here for the 1.5 million Pakistanis.

They also remained optimistic that domestic problems – such as terrorism – are in retreat, owing to a sustained crackdown by government forces.

More details to follow.
