US has lost credibility and popularity - survey
As Americans celebrate their Independence Day today, a survey has found that the image of the country as well as its president have taken a beating, further eroding its popularity.
Dubai: As Americans celebrate their Independence Day today, a survey has found that the image of the country as well as its president have taken a beating, further eroding its popularity.
Seventy per cent of the respondents in a recent YouGov/Gulf News survey believed that the policies of the administration of George W. Bush have undoubtedly made the world a worse place to live in.
Majority of the respondents perceive the US as having lost global credibility as well as being unpopular. In addition, the respondents feel that the country has lost its standing as the "sole superpower".
In fact, 68 per cent of the respondents said they have low confidence in the country's ability to deal with global problems.
The respondents identified flawed policies and strategies as being the key reasons behind the loss of credibility and popularity of the Bush administration.
A majority of the respondents believed that there were other contenders for the position of superpower. These included China, European Union and Russia.
On the Middle East issue, 85 per cent of the respondents said the US policies and actions in the region have resulted in greater instability.
