Pollution in Dubai Marina gets worse

The property used to be a clean place, but today every inlet is full of plastic waste and disgusting litter and even raw sewage.

Well, it is now official - the Dubai Marina area is resembling a toilet. Raw sewage floats on its waters and every day the pollution is getting worse. Every inlet is now full of litter and waste, empty bottles, shopping bags - you name it and its there.

It is truly disgusting and embarrassing when coach-loads of tourists pull up to take a look at the place and find this unpleasant sight. I see them pointing it out and feel embarrassed.

The Marina used to be such a clean place. It was never like this. When I chose to live in the Marina, I believed that it would not be in this state.

I phoned Emaar, the master developer, over three weeks ago and they said they would take a look. However, nothing has happened yet.

We used to have one man in a small boat with a wheelie bin onboard and a butterfly net, hopelessly trying to pick up the litter, but he seems to have disappeared.

More should be done to clean up the Marina. I remember in my hometown, London, how bad the River Thames was ­­- but that was a commercial river and one expected it. Now, they have cleaned it up to the point that even salmon have returned to the river.

With the Marina drawing in visitors from around the world, many are shocked by its state and wonder why it is not in a better state.

If Dubai is to compete with the world's finest marinas, it needs to quickly start clearing this pollution and return it to its original grace.
