One of the fastest developing residential areas of Dubai is Al Nahda 2. The mushrooming buildings, schools, hospitals and restaurants have made it a self-sufficient place.
Surprisingly, there is one walkway here, where it "rains" no matter what the weather! It is surprising to note that it rains nothing but soft drink cans, paper balls, spittle and even glass bottles - all because of a few unscrupulous residents.
These people throw trash right out of their windows without bothering about the plight of people walking below!
Many times we have had to walk in a sandy area, evading the footpath, just after narrowly escaping a burning cigarette stump or a banana peel. It is quite upsetting to discover that even the sandy area is dotted with broken glass and dog faeces. The sandy area does not seem to be an abandoned ground and I believe it is the duty of pet owners to clean up the place before leaving.
Due to this extensive disposal of trash, commuters are finding it difficult to reach the bus stop nearby. The walkway serves as a shortcut to the stop.
Though hefty fines can be introduced, it is quite difficult to apprehend trespassers. Hence, the solution lies with the wrong-doers. I hope they will understand the plight of the people passing by and make proper use of the waste bins at home.
This would help keep the city clean. Otherwise a time would soon arrive when pedestrians would have to wear helmets, too!
