Everywhere I go, all I hear is people complaining about the issues they face while trying to acquire a Emirates ID card. Well whose fault is that? The December 31 deadline issued as of now is a final reminder. If all the complainants did not want to face any hassles, why did they not register when the first deadline was issued? I think it has become second nature for people to complain about everything â?? lack of roads, construction of new roads, lack of bus shelters, provision of new bus shelters that are too 'small'. Enough please. Stop whining. Does no one have anything good to say?

It is really good to have a single card for everything. However, before fixing the deadline the authorities should have studied the availability of forms in the post office and also the speed of the website for registering.

Since I work, I applied online and got the appointment. When I went to the Al Rashidiya registration centre and after an hour of searching for the place, they told me that my name was not on the list. This is after receiving a text message. The officials there told me to fill in the form again. When asking for one, they told me that they were out of stock and that I should come back the next day.

I got my identity card issued in September. The only problem I faced was online registration, which took almost three and a half hours to register four members. I had advised many of my friends to do the registration to avoid last minute rush. Some of them did but many said they still had time (this is before the present deadline was announced). As I predicted, my friends are now rushing to cope with the situation.

It took me the whole day to finish typing out the form. When trying to submit the form, I was told to come back the next day. When I went at 7.30am they told me that I was too late and that they would not accept any more people.

I took an appointment via the website for my family and I on November 11 in the Al Barsha centre. They were able to process the application for me and my 11-year-old son. However, they could not process my wife's application because apparently her name was not in the system from the DNRD department. They told me I had to go to the immigration section to have my wife's data uploaded. Now there is no available date till February 2009. I have to run from one place to another.

I got my identity card in October. I did not experience any hassles. My appointment was scheduled straight away and I did not have to wait in any lines.

I first went to the main post office in Abu Dhabi and was told that the forms were not available. I then tried to fill in the form online using my home computer, but the website was having problems. It took me around two hours. I called the toll free number and told them that the forms are not available at the main post office. The person who answered me told me to go directly to the EIDA office. I went there at around 9.30am the next day and found a long queue of people waiting. These people who were waiting from 6am told me that the office was still closed. The authorities have to find a way to make this easier for residents.

I registered and got my card in June. It will take time to enjoy the full benefits. I am waiting for new guidelines regarding this.

I didn't register because I am a Bedouin and it is not clear whether this also applies to Bedouins.

I have not. I find the process, as outlined in a Gulf News article about a month ago, far too cumbersome. I don't have the time or inclination to trek to the local processing centre with my wife and baby to sit for several hours. I'll wait for the process to become smoother and for more centres to open before I spend my time, more valuable than any money, on the national ID card.

I applied once I got my residence visa. I find the card more useful than the labour card because it shows my age and all the details and also my signature.
