No news?
While it was sad to read about what happened at Torch Tower in Dubai Marina and I’m glad that no one lost their life, I was also sad to see the fire in Abu Dhabi where 10 people actually died get no mention on the front page of Gulf News (‘Fire sweeps Torch tower in Dubai Marina’, Gulf News, February 22). Why the discrimination?

Gulf News covered the tragic fire in Musaffah Industrial Area of Abu Dhabi in great detail, and it was the lead on the front page on February 21. We continue to follow-up, too. You can check the print edition and log on to gulfnews.com for updates.

This is in reference to the Gulf News report about the World Cup T20 match between the West Indies and Pakistan (‘Misbah: It’s time to pick ourselves up’, Gulf News, February 22). Does anyone feel that the reporting style is a bit biased? It all seems to be in favour of the Pakistan team.
Though I am not against a win by Pakistan, the winning team must be projected as the highlight of the report. In this case, Pakistan lost the match, and it was won by the West Indies, with a big margin. However, the report did not comment about the defeat nor surprisingly, report about the winning team. I strongly believe that news must be presented without any leaning towards a particular team.
From Mr Babu Panicker

The journalistic idea behind using Misbah-ul Haq’s quote as the headline was to take the story forward. There was no intent of being biased in favour of the Pakistan team. With the matches taking place in the Australia-New Zealand time zone, the results are known very early on in the day. So, the Gulf News Sports Desk took a conscious decision to treat the match reports in this analytical manner, rather than stating who beat whom. The reports are accompanied by scorecards for the match details.

Groundless accusation
Gulf News didn’t bother to put the news of Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh father’s personal attacks on Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Website comment
Gulf News didn’t publish the news of Yuvraj Singh’s father’s personal attack on M.S. Dhoni, as with the ICC World Cup well under way, his criticism seemed dated and out of context.
