This is with reference to the article ‘Modi a classic case of the dangers of overreaching’ that was published in the Views section of Gulf News on September 7, 2014.
All that has been written by the columnist shows a pathological hatred towards Narendra Modi and is completely out of sync with reality. Modi was given a clean chit by all the courts, but the columnist writes that no court has given him a clean chit. In which world is he living in? Forget about courts giving clean chit, the people of India have given him the decisive mandate to rule the country for five years. While I understand it is difficult to digest and assimilate this for certain people and Opposition parties in India, the reality cannot be changed. While it is highly preposterous to expect a miracle in 100 days, ‘Acche Din’ [good days] are slowly but surely on its way. All the surveys conducted by various agencies across India, indicate that people are by and large satisfied. The biggest achievement is that he brought the governance back on track and government machinery that was previously paralysed is now back in action.
The results of measures taken are already showing except for in the eyes of his critics, which is unfortunate. There is still a long way to go and to expect whatever Modi promised in 100 days, is asking for too much. The idea of addressing children on National Teachers’ Day is an unprecedented move and vast sections of the society welcomed it. After the event, the students were elated and teachers appreciated the initiative and the interaction with the students.
In a democracy, criticism will always be there and should be there. But to distort the facts and present a gloomy picture is far removed from reality. My suggestion is to continue to criticise but not to forget the facts and good things that the Modi government does.
While Modi has already shown that he is different and means business - I also feel like others that the pace of reforms and other measures needs more push. However, I cannot but appreciate the fact that at last we have a government at the centre that is working.
