    Studies have found that factors like hostility from teachers and peers at school, abusive conditions at home, parental alcoholism, poverty, breakdown of the family, or death of parents can result in children turning into criminals. Michael Turner, an associate professor in the department of criminal justice and criminology at the University of North Carolina, USA, found that more than 20 per cent of victims of bullying had higher rates of criminal conviction and substance abuse, compared to those who were not bullied.
