Gulf News reader shares his weight-loss experience

Fat burning diets or pills are like the ‘get rich quick’ schemes – you want to lose all the fat in 45 days and that is not going to happen. Even in programmes that promote weight loss, claiming: “look at the results of our 90-day diet programme”, the results that you see on people are not the change that takes place in a single 90-day programme. The images of people are a result of what they lost at the end of two or three such programmes, but what does happen after the first 90 days is that you can see visible results and understand that you can lose more weight. But the change needs to be more in one’s lifestyle – just taking a magic pill won’t work. I am against any such concept. I do not think it is healthy and I do not support any show of smoke and mirrors. Also, what has always bothered me is the obesity workshops and seminars where they try to promote surgeries and stomach stapling. After whatever has happened to me in my life, I think these are the worst things for people who want to lose weight. In my honest opinion, extreme diets are not long lasting. A lifestyle change is more permanent.
