Think twice
Finally, there is a girl to take action and punish her rapist on her own (‘Girl chops off rapist’s private parts,’ Gulf News, August 2). Although it is not recommended to take such brutal action because one should not take the law into one’s own hands - a recipe for chaos, but this will set an example. Since the judicial system in India is still not capable of punishing rapists adequately or quickly enough due to its flaws, people will eventually resort action.
Even some cases are likely to go against the girls or women victims. Maybe by broadcasting this type of news across the country, people will think twice before committing such crimes. And also there should be more awareness campaigns carried out to educate people in remote areas.

Self defence training
With such immense courage, girls need to be trained to protect themselves against these criminals. Further development at a younger age in rural areas could enable them to be employed with the police force. Given the opportunity, they could curb any such heinous crimes against women.

A role model
This is very hopeful news for all women in India, but I fear that our [Indian] police will punish that girl. We should make an organisation for girls and work for our safety. We have to support this girl. Congratulations my dear, you are our role model!

Should be legal
I agree with her actions. Maybe legal punishment for rapists should be castration. Only then will these kinds of men be scared.

A good move
A very good job done by a brave girl. Since the number of rape cases is increasing day by day and our [Indian] government’s laws aren’t making any impact, this was a good move. Often if the government does take action, the culprit will escape or be released and commit the crime again.

Courage and justice
It’s not funny but I salute the courage of this young girl. My point of view on this matter is our parents and spouses should be more educated enough to know what to do at the right time. The woman was sick but they took her to a native doctor instead of a hospital. I think that’s ridiculous.
God gave man knowledge to take care of himself when he is sick. That’s why we have medical knowledge. Please, take note of this. This woman should be celebrated like Malala of Pakistan all over the world for the courage and justice she stood for.

A fitting punishment
This is truly stunning! It’s truly courageous as women are treated like animals or even lower than that. The reality is that men of India are treating women like tissue paper. Using them and throwing them away.
The constitution and judicial systems are like grass that the perpetrators are crushing and trampling very easily. Unless punishments are made stringent, there is no use of legal systems. And this treatment to the criminal is rightly fitting the punishment and when other cowards hear this, nobody will dare to do such hateful acts against women.

Good but controversial
This was a good move and it was brave work by the girl. The rapist has gotten his punishment, no need of running around with the law, police and court. The girl has given him the best punishment he deserves.
Now he will die of shame in the society even if the law doesn’t punish him properly. The government should also start such kinds of punishment instead of sending them to jails or giving them capital punishment. This will be a big lesson for the rapist for his whole life. Even though such punishments are inhuman, this is a win against these criminals.

A lovely reunion
This is a lovely ending to be able to get your dear pet back (‘Dog lost, found following 9-month search,’ Gulf News, August 2). I can’t imagine their happiness at being reunited with their lovely pet after having found each other again. May you have many lovely moments hereafter and please keep an eye on your pet at all times hereafter. Pets give us so much happiness, we owe them the safety they deserve.

Communal politics
I think the protest against Sania Mirza is only due to her religion (‘Sania Mirza’s Indianness beyond doubt,’ Gulf News, August 2). Everybody can see that after the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the elections that communal incidents have increased.
I don’t know what good Indian film actor Amitabh Bachchan has done for Gujarat that he was made a brand ambassador for the state. Maybe his religion was good enough. Protests against Sania Mirza are naught because people are questioning the good she has done for the state, it’s communal politics and nothing else.

Appalling animal treatment
Whether it is in Delhi, India or in Johannesburg, South Africa, inhumane acts by humans against animals have been occurring (‘India: Masked monkey men hired to combat macaque menace,’ Gulf News, August 2). The parliament of India has decided to scare the monkeys away instead of appointing forest officers to capture the animals and send them to animal life sanctuaries.

Valley of tears
Gaza has become a veritable valley of tears to say the least (‘Gaza needs the world’s help,’ Gulf News, August 3). All the brutal wrath of the aggressive and belligerent Israel is used on the innocent civilians of Gaza, which has indeed made the place a sad valley of blood and tears. I am sure that Israel will be condemned by history.
I strongly feel that a total boycott of Israel is the need of the hour. But how is it possible with the US and the West standing against natural justice and God’s commands? Given the current round of atrocities, a substantial change in the US stance on Israel cannot be ruled out.
The whole world is veering around the strong view that the US is unreasonable, illogical and stands against all norms of international law and natural justice.

Separate civilians from missiles
First and foremost humanitarian aid to the Palestinians should be coming from Hamas in the form of protection. Children and women should be separated from missile range areas and military strong holds.

Big decisions
Support by money is not enough. Governments should send relief teams with all medical and other necessities because this time Israel is blocking everything.
The Arab league has to make some big decisions. They are asking for a safe home, a safe country with freedom and support from all Islamic countries that have the power to fight. They need to send warnings to Israel.

Nothing without the US
The most important aid that Gaza needs is to let other countries stop the US from providing ammunition to Israel. From that, Israel would fire no more. Without the US, Israel is a hungry state from many aspects.

Stand up for Palestine!
Both military aid and peace talks are equally required. Military support is inevitable because without it, Muslims can’t survive there. But for the sake of humanity, both sides have to think of ceasing the war. Also, every country in the world should stand up for Palestine.
