The new generation
This is amazing work (‘An overriding passion for recognising talent', Gulf News, January 25). I am really proud of the young Emirati generation, which seems to be doing its best to take the country to new heights. While their forefathers laid the foundation for a wonderful country, the younger people in this nation are using their knowledge of the internet and new media to contribute to its development in their own way. This is becoming even more important in this day and age of new technology. It is inspiring to see such young adults take charge — it gives people hope for a bright and productive future.

The start of something new
This is such a proud moment for the UAE! This initiative deserves as much exposure as possible. I hope that this will lead to a stronger and more active nation that supports and showcases unique talent. Great work!

A better future
Talented youth should not be discriminated against based on gender. If talents are properly recognised, constructive results can be expected. Regards to those brave and bold hearts.

No room
After I gave birth, I had a lot of clothes to dry (‘Sharjah residents warned against defacing buildings', Gulf News, January 25). We lived in a studio flat without a balcony. We managed to hang our clothes outside our window, after tying some ropes. We got fined and were told we should hang the clothes in our home. Is it even healthy to dry clothes in the same room where you cook? If we must use a clothes stand in the balcony, which is not visible outside, then all apartments should be provided with balconies.

What's the alternative?
The beautification drive is good, but before imposing any restrictions the municipality should offer us an option. What's the alternative?

Give us another way
Drying clothes in apartments is a major problem, and the rules imposed only increase the pressure. It would be easier for us if the relevant authorities also gave us alternative ways to dry our clothes. It's very unhygienic to wear clothes that are not dried properly.

Special lane
This is a commendable effort on the part of the Dubai authorities ("Dubai Metro stations to have bicycle parking spaces", Gulf News, January 24). It will greatly ease the traffic conditions when people start using bicycles. I just hope that Abu Dhabi will do the same. I don't mind riding my bicycle to work if there is a dedicated lane for bicycles.

Encouraging
This is a good move, but if the authorities are seriously considering encouraging people to use their bicycles for shorter distances, they should make the roads safer for the cyclists and others around them. There should be a separate cycle lane that will be safer for the user and will avoid disturbances on the roads.

Special tracks
This is a very good approach by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) but before we start using bicycles, the Authority should provide special tracks, so that people can ride their bikes more often and become healthier at the same time. Keep up the good work RTA.
