Rest in peace
May the departed soul rest in peace (‘Emirati believed to be the oldest in the country dies’, Gulf News, February 15). His longevity was a blessing. His presence with the family members for over a century would have given each and every member of his family an insight about the life of those early days that were full of hardships and challenges. Surely they will be missing him dearly.

An asset to society
I express my deep condolences and pray for him. God bless his soul and give him high rewards. Elderly people are real assets to the family and the nation. Amen.

Hotel nightmare
This is regarding my stay at a hotel located in Bur Dubai, on February 13. I was staying in one of their standard rooms when I noticed a bed bug crawling on the wall. I promptly called their attention. I was transferred to another room. However, I encountered the same problem. I was again transferred to a different room. My stay with them was marked with immense discomfort and concern for hygiene. It was terrible — the whole night. I believe people deserve to be informed of this. I have been making follow-ups regarding my complaint but no one is attending to my call, since I checked out of the hotel.

Too late
Finally! This is a question that I’ve always asked and now it is answered (‘Dubai to have a new zoo soon’, Gulf News, February 13). But as one of the readers wrote, I will not believe it until it is a reality. It was very disheartening to see the animals living in cramped cages. I would say that this decision came in very late. Anyway, let us hope for the best.

The bigger, the better
I’m happy to hear the good news. I hope the action plan is carried out soon to move the animals from their cramped surroundings to a spacious new place. The Mushrif area would be a good idea since the park is covered with huge trees and gives a forest-like look.

When will it happen?
Having lived through all the earlier announcements of them moving the zoo, I’ll believe it when I see it actually happening.

Bigger and better
I have been in Dubai since 1989 and Dubai Zoo has always been my favourite place to visit. More than my children I love to go and take pictures of all the animals’ expressions. It’s great news that there will be a big and brand new zoo coming soon. It will be wonderful. Thank you Dubai.

Horrors of war
I am not a fan of Osama Bin Laden but that does not mean I trust Americans. They have made a mess in Iraq and Afghanistan (‘Bin Laden told his children to live in peace in the West’, Gulf News, February 13).
What have we achieved after ten years of this long war, which seems to be eternal? The UAE is one among the few places on the face of this Earth where one can live peacefully. May God protect this land from evil eyes.

A new Sri Lanka
What this regime has done to Sri Lanka is remarkable (‘Rajapakse’s grip tightens’, Gulf News, February 14). We are finally acquiring what was overdue for 30 years in terms of infrastructure and development.
Even during the war the country marched forward and not backward, but at a slower pace. Hats off to all the politicians who governed this country for the past 50 years.
If you have been to Sri Lanka before, please come now and witness the transformation in Colombo and other parts of the country.

Can’t wait to go back
I am proud of my country’s President Mahinda Rajapakse. He has done positive things for the people of Sri Lanka — the main one would be ending the war in the country.
Now I am happy that my children are in Sri Lanka studying and I am hoping to return to my motherland.
