Changing perceptions
This is in reference to the report on the movie Journey to Mecca, which highlights the amazing journey of Ibn Battuta ("New movie promotes Islam's message of peace", Gulf News, January 8). I believe this is an excellent way to enhance the image of Arabs around the world. Additionally, it can show the world how the media can sometimes portray the wrong image of Islam. I think it would be great if this film were shown in all theatres, in countries across the world.

Murderers alike
I am a Muslim living in London and participated in a march to protest against Israel's actions, recently ("Collective suffering fuels Palestinian resistance", Gulf News, January 11). We want them to stop killing innocent children in Gaza. I was quite surprised to see many non-Muslims taking part in the rally and expressing their concern. The Muslim world has been blessed with wealth and power. How many lives have to be lost before some action is taken? The world is well aware of the situation in Gaza. What will it take for everyone to wake up? If we do not act now, we are all equally responsible for the murder of innumerable people.

Continue to harm
The concerned authorities should take immediate measures to relocate shisha cafes, especially in residential areas ("Dubai International City residents' sleep goes up in smoke", Gulf News, January 10). The health of several children will be affected if such cafeterias continue to operate. The authorities are promoting a healthier and greener Dubai, but such shisha shops harm the environment.

Activity, necessary
As a student I would like Gulf News to know three things that most students want in schools. Most schools do not give physical education and coaching for games to their female students. A physical education period is necessary for us to warm up before classes as we get up early and feel sleepy during the day. Teachers keep on explaining a single paragraph of the lesson at least three to six times, which drives us to sleep during classes. When it comes to sports, most schools treat girls as if they were completely ignorant. On the other hand boys have no problem as they have physical education classes every day.

Wake up world
The Arab world seems to be sleeping in this time of great agony for the Gazans. These are the countries that actively take part in discussions. When there was tension between India and Pakistan after the recent Mumbai attacks, leaders from all over the world extensively focussed on the issue. We saw pictures of the incident in the news for several days. However, now everyone seems to be hiding, while innocents are being killed every day. I ask the world to wake up! Now is the time for action. We should at least pray collectively for the innocents in Gaza.

Extend help
This is the time to extend all help to the innocent civilian victims of the Gazan genocide. Many residents are waiting for a suitable and convenient opportunity to contribute towards this humanitarian cause. If etisalat and du could start a charity campaign through SMS, it will help a great deal in collecting funds of any amount.

Roller coaster ride
I gather that the rail track for the Dubai Metro goes up and down and even swings from right to left at some parts, in a similar manner to that of a roller coaster ("Second Metro power system begins; first substation undergoes final tests", Gulf News, January 10). My question is, does anyone enjoy roller coaster rides on a daily basis? Additionally, what about heart patients?

Not so lucky
This is in reference to the report on scam messages being sent to mobile phone users ("Scam artists target etisalat subscribers", Gulf News, January 9). I received a text message on my mobile, informing that I had won £250,000 (Dh1,364,131). The message highlighted the company's contact number and email address, too. I called the number and somebody answered the phone and continued to inform me how lucky I was. However, I was sure that this was definitely a scam and refused to continue the conversation.

Living apart
This is in reference to the report on affordable accommodation in Abu Dhabi ("Abu Dhabi municipality's reform plans are on track", Gulf News, January 11). It is nice to know that the authorities are doing something regarding the high demands for suitable accommodation in Abu Dhabi, especially for the middle-income groups that cannot afford to rent a house. I hope many investors contribute to this plan. Additionally, I wish that we could afford the prices! If this plan works, my husband and I can finally live together under one roof.

Inconsiderate drivers
Some motorists just enjoy tailgating others in an intimidating manner. I have found myself in this predicament and reacted by indicating and changing lanes, despite driving at the assigned speed limit. However, the other motorist would suddenly overtake from the right side, causing me to swerve in order to avoid collision. This is the cause of many accidents, and I am sure that many other drivers would be grateful if the authorities would consider a campaign to stop such behaviour.

A good boost
I believe this is a long-awaited decision ("UAE plans unified freehold visa", Gulf News, January 11). It would not only give a sense of stability to the expatriates but would also help boost investor confidence in the UAE's real estate market.

Great move
This is a great move. I do hope that the law will apply to all the investors who have already purchased a property, too. Overall, it will boost the confidence of investors and the end users. It will further attract and encourage foreign investors to invest in the property market.
