Disrespect to the deceased
This is really shocking and sickening at the same time (‘Man jailed for eating baby in Pakistan,’ Gulf News, April 18). It is difficult to believe that some people could be eating human beings in this era, where the world has sufficient produce to feed mankind. Also, as the report stated, the dead bodies were dug out of their graves before they were cooked and eaten. I suggest that the brothers be tested for diseases as well. Moreover, not only should they be punished for doing something so barbaric, they deserve the toughest sentence for causing disrespect to the deceased. It is a shame that such things take place within our societies.

Stop blaming each other
This is simply disgusting. No matter how heartless some people might be, I still can’t believe any human being can do such a thing. Eating babies? The very thought makes it disturbing and disgusting. Are people forgetting we are humans and not beasts? I was surprised to see how people are blaming Pakistanis and Pakistanis are blaming the newspaper for publishing this report. Can we all act a little sensible and stop discussing nationalities here? It doesn’t matter where this happened, what matters is that it happened. Also, I agree that the country’s government needs to mete out immediate and strict punishment to the culprit in order to make sure he does not repeat this act in the future.

Stricter laws
If the man has confessed, he should simply be hanged to death. I do not understand why such people were released from jail. Wake up, Pakistan. Unless the government of the country gives strict and immediate punishment, such crimes will continue.

Wrong blame
A very gruesome act indeed, but it’s not fair to play the blame game on the country for an act by one particular individual.

Is there a law?
It’s not about blaming Pakistan as a country. If this happened in any country, its government should have realised the graveness of the offense the very first time. If no such law exists, make one. Man-made laws can always be created and amended.

No point
Making a law doesn’t stop a crime from happening. We can’t blame the Pakistani government for it. It is a heinous act by an individual.

Don’t let them go
If the culprits had been caught earlier, why were they released without any surveillance over them? This is not a small crime and just being referred to a psychiatrist is not enough.
