UAE shows the way, yet again
Wage Protection System aims to protect workers' rights and ensure labour welfare
Labourers are often the unsung heroes of the economic success of the UAE. But, in an important gesture, their role has been recognised by Labour Minister Saqr Gobash Saeed Gobash in the most meaningful way possible: he has committed the UAE to protecting their rights and ensuring they too benefit from their stay in the country.
Gobash also supported the idea of helping migrant labourers to integrate back into their country of origin. The minister was attending a forum on the welfare and migration of workers and international development.
His words have been backed by action. The UAE is introducing a Wage Protection System that will ensure workers are paid their dues on time. The ministry has also warned employers who file malicious cases against workers that they will be prosecuted.
By protecting the rights of its workers, the UAE will ensure it is able to attract the best of an important international economic resource.
