Taking guard for a new innings
Emirates' decision to build seven cricket grounds is a welcome relief to cricketers
It would be a heartening sight to see cricket pitches in Dubai being populated once again with players of all ages and capabilities.
Once boasting one of the world's busiest and intensive cricket leagues, Dubai - the home of the International Cricket Council, the governing body of world cricket - sadly failed to register a single sanctioned game last season, or the season before that.
The reason? There were no more pitches available to play the game. It is against this backdrop that the decision by Emirates to build seven cricket grounds by next year comes as a welcome relief to cricket lovers all across the UAE and to the Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) who were entrusted with the governance of the game but who, till 2005, had precious little to do.
This noble gesture is in harmony with Emirates' decision to become a global player in cricket. It provides the wind beneath their wings.
