Strict new policy must be welcomed
Police should clamp down on all errant drivers, and not only those of heavy vehicles.
The decision taken by Bur Dubai Traffic Police to clamp down on errant drivers of heavy vehicles is to be applauded. As is witnessed daily by other drivers on the main arterial roads, there is a significant number of heavy vehicles that can cause congestion and danger to drivers of smaller vehicles.
Additionally, the tendency for heavy vehicle drivers to "bunch up" on motorways frequently makes it difficult for passenger cars to pass without difficulty. They also risk missing their exit slip-road.
However, it would be unfair of the police to target heavy vehicle drivers alone, for there are drivers of many other types of vehicles that can and do create as much or more danger to road users.
The police claim there will be no leniency towards errant drivers of heavy vehicles, but equally, the same should apply to drivers of private passenger cars as well.
